SOx Scrubbers

Project
Accomplishments

2020 and 2021

During 2020 and 2021, we had 150 installations and 161 successful MARPOL tests for 18 different customers. We carried out a wide range of retrofits and newbuilds, covering both open-loop and hybrid systems.

2020 was particularly active. We installed scrubbers on an extensive “fleet” of vessels, resulting in substantial advances within maritime emissions abatement. The following statistics and cases demonstrate the scale and impacts of our 2020 installations.

  • These vessels have a total carrying capacity of 16,6 mil. DWT1
  • 16,6 mil. tons are 2,5 times the yearly throughput of the Port of Oslo2

1. Deadweight tonnage or tons deadweight (DWT) is a measure of how much weight a ship can carry.
2. The Port of Oslo had a total throughput of 6,1 mil. tons year 2019.

Fully clear that DSME and SHI projects have been a great accomplishment

  • The combined engine power for these vessels are 4 Gigawatts
  • That is 200 MW higher than the nuclear power plant Ringhals
  • Ringhals can produce enough electricity to cover the yearly consumption of Gothenburg 4 times over3

3. Ringhals had an output of 3750 MW with all 4 reactors active and produced an average of 25 TWh between 2014-2019.

Yara Marine Technologies and Norwegian Cruise Line mark green marine milestone

Proof of how well our scrubbers suit the daily operation of bulk vessels

  • At max capacity, we are able to clean 29 000 tons of exhaust gases every hour from these engines

The structure and people at Yara Marine made sure that those challenges were quickly overcome

During 2020 we had 60 project deliveries

  • We delivered 1184 tons of equipment from Europe, and 819 tons from other locations
  • That’s 2003 tons of goods, or equivalent to 20 blue whales

NSC choose Yara Marine Technologies to retrofit four vessels with open loop scrubbers

Yara Marine and Norwegian CruiseLine mark green marine milestone

  • The pumps we installed have a total flow rate of 210 575 m3/h
  • That’s 27 times more than Mölndalsån outside YMTs Gothenburg office
  • We installed 170 towers with a total height of 2416 meters
  • Measured in Shanghai Towers4, that’s almost 4 stacked on top of each other

4. Shanghai Tower is 632 meters tall.

Berge Bulk continues to cut emissions with Yara Marine Technologies

Brittany Ferries is proud to be one of the first companies accredited by the Green Marine eco-label, which is driving best practice in maritime sustainability

  • We spent 211 515 hours on projects in 2020
  • That is 8813 days, or 24 years

A healthy planet for future generations

Dear all,
Thank you for your fantastic contribution to delivering our projects during 2020! In the following pages, you will find a highlight of the project accomplishments that we, as a team, have done during the past year. Without each one of you, it would not have been possible.

As a small thank you for your efforts, you have received a gift bag. We hope you use them well and take the opportunity to go outdoors or exercise in a way that suits you best.

New interesting challenges lie ahead, and we want you all to be ready, just as strong or even stronger than before!

Once again, thank you all for the hard work and effort!
